Vending machines are the epitome of impulsive consumer gratification. Like any other marketing strategy, it keys in on our emotions. According to research, there are “Eight Human Truths of Impulse” – morsels that touch upon some human craving for delight, aspiration, reward, and indulgence; a desire to be rescued, spoiled, and charmed. So that Hershey’s bar you just dropped six quarters for? It’s more than a taming of that tummy rumble; it’s filling a deep inner need.

But our needs are ever-changing and ever-growing. After six months of rewarding ourselves with chocolate bars, a hunger for something different – something exciting, delightful, and out-of-the-ordinary – sets in.

That’s where I come to help. Below are three creative vending machine “recipes” to nuke, spread, toss, and sip your way to charm city.

Banana Rama Snackers

Ingredients:

·         Banana

·         Hershey’s milk chocolate bar

·         Reese’s pieces, pretzels, and/or nuts

Directions:

1.       Place the chocolate bar in a mug and microwave until melted

2.       Spread melted chocolate over sliced bananas

3.       Sprinkle Reese’s pieces, pretzels, or nuts on top

Chocolate Popcorn Balls

Ingredients:

·         Popcorn

·         Hershey’s milk chocolate bar

Directions:

1.       Place the chocolate bar in a mug and microwave until melted

2.       Toss the popcorn with the melted chocolate

3.       Divide the mixture up to form bite-sized balls and put on a plate to dry

Wildberry Tea Spritzer

Ingredients:

·         Tea bag

·         Fruit gummies

·         Ginger ale

·         Ice

Directions:

1.       Brew the tea

2.       While the tea is seeping, dump in the fruit gummies

3.       Remove tea bag and add ice

4.       Top off with ginger ale

Go ahead. Impress your boss and colleagues with your clever and creative concoctions. You’re sure to get some self-esteem fist bumps!
