Sutherland Superstar – Dale Heather Maria

Sutherland has a plethora of incredible people. However, we have many who are willing to go the Extra Mile. In acknowledgment of their efforts, we honor them being Superstars. Meet Sutherland’s latest star.

  1. How and when did you first begin working at Sutherland?

I was referred by a friend and started working at Sutherland on August 31, 2009.

  1. What drives and motivates you to give your best each day?

Each day brings different challenges and I like to succeed in making a difference in someone’s day. I’ve always worked with awesome teams that help you get there when you are having “one of those days,” and we’ve all had them.

  1. What are your top three most important accomplishments here at Sutherland?

The first one is easy. For me, being a technically challenged individual, it was scary at first in Tech Support, but I had awesome coaches and coworkers who stuck with it to “champion” the position. The second is that I have developed extremely good listening skills to really understand what people are saying. Thirdly, continuing to move forward when the challenges are huge and you keep working towards success; never give up!

  1. Have you held multiple positions at Sutherland? If so, how did you get from where you started, to where you are now?

Starting on the phones in Tech Support was a great introduction to the company, and I saw many different avenues that could be pursued. I’ve participated on the social committees, the health and safety committee, and volunteered for community activities. My background in Human Resources/volume talent acquisition pointed my interest first to a supporting administrative role and subsequently to my current role as Specialist on the Talent Acquisition Team.

  1. What is your favorite thing about working at Sutherland?

My favorite things about working at Sutherland are all the fantastic people I work with, such as customers, candidates, and coworkers. What a great crew!

  1. Do you think there is growth potential for people who want to advance their career at Sutherland?

Absolutely there is growth potential. You should be willing to work harder than the next person and never give up.

  1. What would be your advice to someone wanting to work at Sutherland?

You earn and learn at Sutherland, so get the most out of it! Where you start out, has nothing to do with where you end up. Be prepared to be open-minded, flexible, and honest to develop to your full potential.

By Debra Mason | I’m from the Paradise Island of Jamaica and was raised in the parish of St. Catherine. I graduated from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus with a B.A in Language Communication and Society. I love anywhere with water and can’t swim to save my life, but it doesn’t stop me from jumping in (life jacket and all). I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and having chill moments that help me to unwind and enjoy the simply things in life. When I’m not working, I enjoy planning trips with my friends across the country to see rivers, falls or the beach, having a barbecue cook out, or catching a movie on the big screen. I also enjoy singing and karaoke events. My motivation in life is my family, as they have played a major role in molding me into the young woman I am today.
