By Amber Kukiela | Amber is the Candidate Experience Specialist for Sutherland Global Services. She has a diverse background in marketing and has worked with Welch Allyn Inc. and the New York Family Business Center. She is a recent graduate of Le Moyne College where she majored in Business Marketing and minored in Philosphy and Art Administration. During her time at Le Moyne, she was a sprinter and high jumper for the NCAA track and field team. Since then, she has been running in 5k races around the Central NY area. When not running, she dabbles in photography, painting, and illustrating. She also enjoys baking and cooking and uses her coworkers as taste testers.

  1. What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?

Every leader should possess the ability to accept criticism with an open mind & identify ways of integrating it into current methods to foster improvement.

  1. What do you “owe” yourself?

I owe myself a week of island hopping, then 2 weeks backpacking across Europe, Lol!

  1. What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

I’m going to ensure that I keep focusing on the positives of the job & keep striving to learn more.

  1. What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?

Keep looking up! There are going to be days that feel overwhelming, but you’re in the role because someone believed that you are strong enough to stay above the waves. Don’t lose sight of your goals, don’t succumb to negative words or actions, but keep striving for the best. “Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” – Peter Drucker

  1. What are your greatest professional strengths?

My greatest professional strengths are: my willingness to learn, my open-mindedness, my receptiveness to correction, my optimism and ability to see & bring out the potential in everyone.
