Platinum Performer – Casey Filarecki

Sutherland has a plethora of incredible people. However, we have many who are willing to go the Extra Mile. In acknowledgment of their efforts, we honor them as a Platinum Performer. Recipients of this prestigious award are invited to our special quarterly dinner where they are recognized for their contributions to the company. Meet Sutherland’s latest awardee.

  1. What gets you up in the morning? No, not your dog or alarm….but what really drives you to get up and give your best each day?

The short answer is passion. Every day is a new opportunity to contribute to making Sutherland better for our stakeholders. I love that I am given the freedom to apply my knowledge and talent to achieve this goal.

  1. Tell us something about Sutherland or your role specifically that others may not know.

Human Resources does more than fill out paperwork and fire people. Sure, that will always be part of the job, but it’s not all we do. Our role has evolved just like other functions. HR has “a seat at the table” and we work with the departments proactively to set up policies, programs, and procedures help achieve company goals.

  1. So far in your career at Sutherland, what are your top three most important accomplishments?

I feel my most important contribution is assisting employees with their concerns to ensure they are happy and see Sutherland as the employer of choice in our industry. Second, would be training and educating our Team Managers to be better today than they were yesterday by using our interactions as coaching opportunities. As far as a tangible output, I created and maintain an interactive format that houses a variety of regulations for all 50 states, which is utilized by the North American HR team.

  1. Who at Sutherland has made the biggest impact on your career and why?

Audrey McDonald, Director of Human Resources for Work at Home, has made the biggest impact on my career. Audrey sets the goals and allows me to choose how I accomplish them. When I need help or advice, she is always available. Audrey challenges me by empowering me to take on new projects. Being virtual and our workload means we do not interact as much as brick and mortar HR teams, but she always makes time to say “hello,” see how I am doing, and provide a laugh.

  1. What would be your advice to someone who wants to work in your position at Sutherland?

Knowing local, state, federal laws is a given. Learning about our business so you know how your role impacts Service Delivery and the company overall will make you a stronger business partner. Ultimately, my role is about people and human beings are complex. However, if you are genuine, actively listen, ask clarifying questions, and follow through on your commitments, you will be a resource people will come to trust and rely on.

  1. What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with my family.

  1. What three words best describe you?

The three words that best describe me are tall, humorous, and balding.

  1. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I would like to have psionic powers like Professor X, so I can induce amnesia when I forget to take out the recycling, but would settle for telepathy. Being able to communicate with everyone and know their inner thoughts would be an awesome skill for recruiting and employee relations.
